Adam Singer is an experienced Divorce and Family Law lawyer.
Adam knows that family disputes are among the most difficult challenges people can face. He gets great satisfaction in helping his clients obtain the best achievable outcomes.
All families are unique, and so are all family disputes. Adam places great value on working closely with his clients and seeking the best and most cost-effective results. Negotiated resolutions are often preferable, but there are times when litigation is unavoidable. Adam is equally comfortable in the courtroom or in alternative dispute resolution processes such as collaborative law, mediation and arbitration.
Adam’s career as a lawyer spans more than 30 years. A seasoned litigator and negotiator, he has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, and was a criminal defense lawyer and civil litigator for most of the first two decades of his law career. Since 2005, Adam has focused his law practice on Divorce and Family Law.
Adam has honed his skills as a communicator throughout his law career, his previous experiences as a writer for CBC radio and as a newspaper and magazine reporter, and a Master’s degree in English.
Adam is a volunteer instructor with CPLED (Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education), the Alberta bar admission course, and has been a Volunteer Lawyer with the YWCA Sheriff King Legal Clinic. Adam has served as a Volunteer Lawyer with Calgary Legal Guidance and Student Legal Assistance at the University of Calgary, Editorial Board Member of the Alberta Law Society Newsletter, Vice-Chair of the Canadian Bar Association Calgary Health Law Subsection, and Member of the Canadian Bar Association (Alberta) Task Force on Fault/No Fault Insurance.
As a community volunteer, Adam has served as President of Calgary Jewish Federation, Vice-President of the Calgary Jewish Academy School, and President of Temple B’nai Tikvah Synagogue. He is a regular blood donor, and in 2016 Adam was recognized by Canadian Blood Services for 75 blood donations.
In September 2018 Adam joined Wilson Laycraft, a boutique law firm noted for its senior experienced counsel and friendly, welcoming environment. Before then, Adam practiced in a family law firm for nearly 9 years.
Adam has been a member of the Alberta Law Society since 1987, and is a member of the Association of Collaborative Professionals (Calgary). He is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Calgary Bar Association.
Adam earned his LL.B. from the University of Alberta in 1986, having previously obtained his B.A. from the University of Alberta in 1980 and his M.A. in English from the University of Toronto in 1982.
A lifelong learner, in 2017 Adam was awarded the DELF B2 (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française) by France’s Ministry of Education. The DELF B2 level gives access to programs in French in most francophone universities in France.
Married for over 30 years, Adam is the proud father of two daughters.
